Here's my rewatch for the fourth episode of Buffy, Teacher's Pet.

Hurrah, I now have a functional desk chair! It gets me high enough to see the top of my desk and everything.
I also have my rewatch for BtVS episode 3, the Witch. I've found that it's very hard for me to say things about this show, because I always feel like I don't know enough about it, even when I've seen the vast percentage of it already. Hm.

I've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer lately. I'd seen some of it before - bits and pieces of episodes, some of the first season a while back when I first tried to get into it. But this winter I've been watching it and I really like it. I've not seen all the episodes yet - haven't seen a few scattered episodes in seasons 1-4, haven't seen most of season six and I've still to watch the last four episodes of season 7. I watched them partially out of order, because I couldn't really get into season 1 - the Willow-Xander-Buffy triangle bugged me and the high school is hell metaphor didn't resonate particularly well with me - so I skipped straight to season 4 originally and then, given that I'd been spoiled for most of the major plot developements in the series, took a fairly random approach to what order I watched the seasons, and occasionally the episodes, in. (4, 5 and 7 were mostly in order, except for the episodes in season 4 I skipped. 1, 2, 3 and the few episodes of 6 I watched were not.)
But now I've decided to go through the series from the beginning, now that I'm hooked enough to do so, and post my rewatch notes. I don't have much to say, and no deep insights, but it seems like a fun thing to do, and it'll keep me watching in order. And what is livejournal for, if not to hear yourself talk. Or watch yourself type, to be more accurate, though somewhat less idiomatic.
I will make no effort not to include spoilers for any part of the series, so if you haven't seen it be warned.

Nov. 27th, 2010 08:34 amHuh. And now I'm 18. My parents said that for my birthday they'll pay for me and three friends to go out to eat at a restaurant, but I haven't had a chance to ask anyone yet. I don't even know what restaurants are in the area. And Mum's guaranteed to call me up on Sunday to tell me off for not going out to do anything on my birthday.

Oct. 3rd, 2010 07:15 pmHave finished my second FYP essay. It's terrible. I'm just going to hope for a passing mark, and try extra hard on the next one.
I hate having to hand in essays I'm not happy with, because I spend the whole time before we get them back embarrassed to look at the teacher marking them.
Argh. And next time it's going to be essays on Plato, and I'm not really sure how to write a philosophy essay. Ah well. At least next time I presumably will not have spent the week I should have been working on my essay sick with a head full of fog, and will not be trying to write my essay in the last two days.
I kind of miss being able to print out my essay multiple times while writing it. I love my computer, but it is somewhat frustrating to edit on.

So, today was the first FYP lecture. It was pretty interesting. I have found, though, that I absolutely hate the term 'bromance'. The people in my tutorial kept using it to refer to Gilgamesh and Enkidu, and I was just sitting there going 'argh argh argh', but I couldn't object, because really there is nothing to object to. It was just making me crazy. Even better, some people were referring to it as homoeroticism, but then the tutor said that she didn't think it was really 'homoeroticism', just bromance and friendship and 'let's talk about reasons other than that that they keep comparing Gilgamesh and Enkidu to a married couple.' It's just...homoeroticism doesn't mean we're saying that Enkidu is Gilgamesh's boyfriend or whatever. We're not saying they're gay. That's not really a helpful way of talking about something written at that time, after all. But...'they're close friends and like brothers' and 'their friendship is kind of homoerotic' are not mutually exclusive.
I don't know. Is my definition of homoeroticism the one that's wrong? I don't even mind if it is. I just want them to shut up about the fucking 'bromance'.

My aunt wants to get a guard llama. She has a coyote coming into the backyard and eating the chickens and so she wants to get a llama. Because she can't let the dog roam free, or else it might run off and a neighbour might shoot it. And apparantly llamas become quite fierce when confronted with predators. I can't decide whether this is a very stupid idea or completely awesome.

Jul. 20th, 2010 02:39 pmI finished watching Nobuta wo Produce a few hours ago. I started watching it yesterday and stayed up til 1:30am, because I couldn't stop (though I was tired enough at that point that I went to bed with one episode to go). I watched the last episode this morning and I seriously wept through the last twenty minutes of it. I cannot remember when I last cried because of a tv show, and I'm not sure when the last time I cried that hard for anything was.
I just. I love them, Shuji and Akira and Nobuta, and I want to believe that sometime in the future they all end up living together, all three of them. Even though it's repeated that they'll find other people they love, and they'll always love each other even if they're separated and all that. I just want them to be together, cause all three of them love each other so much. Even two hours later, I am still rendered incoherent by this show.
I wish I had someone I could share it with.

Jul. 13th, 2010 02:44 pmWent to see A Month in the Country with my sister last night. It was very good, and very Laszlo.
To clarify, Laszlo Martin is the director. My aunt is the stage manager, and she has worked with Laszlo in the past. What a Laszlo play with contain is water, lots of water. My aunt was telling me all about this a few weeks ago, how Laszlo had come to her and said that he needed a hose. A real hose. And a shower. And rain. And Auntie Nan is having to go to the production manager and explain that Laszlo`s back and he wants water. (She did, however, talk him out of the live chicken.) Setting up things like that isn`t easy, and it means that everyone`s costumes get soaked, and most directors are willing to simulate the water effects - you know, show that it`s raining outside with some sound effects and strategic lighting, that sort of thing. But not Laszlo. Apparantly, in Platanov, he made the actors stand in pouring rain for twenty minutes and they were all soaking wet and shivering. (My apostraphe key is causing things like this: Ì é ``a. WTF. How do I fix thatÉ Question mark is messed up too apparantly.)
As a result, I found myself smothering giggles everytime the hose was turned on, which was often. Though the hose at least had purpose and was used often. The shower was used in one pointless interlude where Katya, who is barely present in the play, pushes some guy who was so relevant to the play that I never even learned his name into a shower.
The play was really great though, even if all I can find to say about it was that it contained water. They do a really great job making it absolutely hilarious (`I have a wind machine!`, the entire Bogdanova+Doctor scene, etc.) while still keeping up the essential heartbreak of the situation.

And the Final End of High School
Jul. 6th, 2010 03:29 pmJust got my IB results. A on my Extended Essay, 5 in English, 5 in History, 5 in Chem, 6 in Bio. (B in TOK, though I may have known that already. I can't remember; TOK wasn't exactly memorable, except as an exercise in bad planning on the part of the school.) Overall, I have 33 points.
Mildly disappointed with myself, but I suppose it doesn't really matter in the end and they're not terrible marks. I wish I could see the comments on my exams though; it wouldn't change anything, but I'd just like to know.

Graduation
Jun. 30th, 2010 06:07 pmGraduated yesterday. Won the Ann Shepard Grade 12 Biology Award, along with Patrick. Managed not to cry until Ms McD and Ms Ellis showed up at the reception (though I started to tear up during Matthew's valedictorian speech when he started talking about everyone going their seperate ways).
This is one of those things that I wish I could think of more to say about, because it's something I'm probably going to want to be able to remember and it's always easier to do that if I've written it down, but I can't think what to say. Ah well.

Prom was last night. It was fun. Like, actually genuinely fun (most of it). But I can't seem to think of anything to say about it. Tamara won Prom Queen, Jordans Tingle and Dellerede won Prom King (it was a tie) and thus has bright green paper crowns that got passed around a lot during the dancing (Tamara got a silver plastic tiara). Peter wore a tuxedo pattern t-shirt and a top hat and curled the ends of his mustache, and won Best Dressed Male. Faryal won Best Dressed Female. Cisi won Oh-My-Gosh-Girl-Is-That-Really-You? (Which was frankly my reaction as well: I actually thought she was Pearl when I first saw her, though in my defense I saw her from a distance and her face was partially turned away from me). Frankie won Highest Stilettos with her five inch heels that she wore all night even when most of the girls had abandoned their heels in favour of bare feet.
Ezra and his date were really entertaining to watch, but I can't quite manage to describe how they danced. It involved actual dancing that looked like dancing though. Mr McCready and some teachers whose names I should know but don't danced a lot too and were also very entertaining.
The slideshow cracked me up, mostly because I'd forgotten about how some of the guys in my class had their hair down to their shoulders in a giant shaggy mane in grade 9. Also, that in grade 9 Josh looked about ten years old.
I took many many photos and some videos, though most of the videos turned out too dark to see properly.
I am reminded once again that, despite everything, I am really going to miss these people. They really are just the nicest people I could have gone to school with and the thought of never seeing them again after grad is really depressing.

I have a computer! An actual working computer! That can cope with more than one window open at a time and doesn't turn pink at random intervals!
My laptop came yesterday, and I have finally got it all set up - though I am still trying to get everything off my old computer so I can put it on this one, a process that is hampered somewhat by my old computer moving at the pace of a dead slug.
Windows 7 has apparantly been designed to make me as insane as possible - clean and uncluttered looking is less important than functional and easy to use, guys - but I have managed to make it as unaggravating as possible.
And it works! This sort of overshadows any irritation I might have.
