Went to see A Month in the Country with my sister last night. It was very good, and very Laszlo.

To clarify, Laszlo Martin is the director. My aunt is the stage manager, and she has worked with Laszlo in the past. What a Laszlo play with contain is water, lots of water. My aunt was telling me all about this a few weeks ago, how Laszlo had come to her and said that he needed a hose. A real hose. And a shower. And rain. And Auntie Nan is having to go to the production manager and explain that Laszlo`s back and he wants water. (She did, however, talk him out of the live chicken.) Setting up things like that isn`t easy, and it means that everyone`s costumes get soaked, and most directors are willing to simulate the water effects - you know, show that it`s raining outside with some sound effects and strategic lighting, that sort of thing. But not Laszlo. Apparantly, in Platanov, he made the actors stand in pouring rain for twenty minutes and they were all soaking wet and shivering. (My apostraphe key is causing things like this: Ì é ``a. WTF. How do I fix thatÉ Question mark is messed up too apparantly.)

As a result, I found myself smothering giggles everytime the hose was turned on, which was often. Though the hose at least had purpose and was used often. The shower was used in one pointless interlude where Katya, who is barely present in the play, pushes some guy who was so relevant to the play that I never even learned his name into a shower.

The play was really great though, even if all I can find to say about it was that it contained water. They do a really great job making it absolutely hilarious (`I have a wind machine!`, the entire Bogdanova+Doctor scene, etc.) while still keeping up the essential heartbreak of the situation.
