So, today was the first FYP lecture. It was pretty interesting. I have found, though, that I absolutely hate the term 'bromance'. The people in my tutorial kept using it to refer to Gilgamesh and Enkidu, and I was just sitting there going 'argh argh argh', but I couldn't object, because really there is nothing to object to. It was just making me crazy. Even better, some people were referring to it as homoeroticism, but then the tutor said that she didn't think it was really 'homoeroticism', just bromance and friendship and 'let's talk about reasons other than that that they keep comparing Gilgamesh and Enkidu to a married couple.' It's just...homoeroticism doesn't mean we're saying that Enkidu is Gilgamesh's boyfriend or whatever. We're not saying they're gay. That's not really a helpful way of talking about something written at that time, after all. But...'they're close friends and like brothers' and 'their friendship is kind of homoerotic' are not mutually exclusive.

I don't know. Is my definition of homoeroticism the one that's wrong? I don't even mind if it is. I just want them to shut up about the fucking 'bromance'.
